Inside-out Susans!

September 26, 2009

Bright yellow and orange black-eyed susans nod cheerfully in any breeze of late summer. This pretty yellow specimen was part of a group of flowers photographed in Northern Michigan. Black-eyed susans are native to the United States and happily grow from scattered seed. They are also extremely photogenic!

This intriguing “inside-out” design was created with double use of a polarizing effect in Photoshop. I saw this on Photoshop User TV where Rick Sammon demonstrated how cool this could be, given the right photo. Apply the polarizing filter, flip the resulting image upside down, and apply the other polarizing filter and see what happens!
