Just got a nice comment on this mousepad that is featured on a different Zazzle gallery and thought I’d share the story behind it.
The background began as a photo I took of the U.S. flag at my old condo complex. It was a beautiful fall day and the flag was snapping in the wind, the colors vivid against a bright blue sky. In Photoshop, the flag kept the original draping (from the breeze blowing), but acquired a posterization look that I like better for a photo frame. In addition, the original photo was taken on one of my old cameras and the resolution left something to be desired.
I chose a section of the posterized photo where the stars looked good and laid them over a striped section. To add some definition to the line separating the stars from the stripes, I used a special art brush to yield the rough charcoal style edge. Inside the photo frame, I wanted words to go over the photo. My youngest niece, an ROTC cadet, suggested blue instead of red for the words.
The photo of the soldier is deliberately obscured, but it is an old family photo of one of my uncles during World War II. Four of my uncles served during the war, at least three of them in the Army Air Corps. Because of this, I included the Army Air Corps as an option among the frames. According to Wikipedia, the Air Corps functioned from 1926 through 1941, when it was abolished as an organization, but remained as a branch of the USAAF, United States Army Air Forces, until 1947. The Air Force was born then.
If you’d like to see how the framing looks with a modern photo, of course you can try your own! It does work best with a photo that has lighter space at the bottom!
All branches of the U.S Military are available this way! Just in time for Father’s Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day and, of course, Independence Day!
